Heterogeneity

Heterogeneity is a computational exploration of shape creation using the implementation of Rhinoscript . The script investigates the algorithmic relationships among system entities that allows growth through a simple, unfolding, enlargement processes.

TENSSILE

Tenssile explores how parametric modeling can be leveraged to facilitate the design of complex building skin. The design of the shading façade originates from Voronoi tessellation and subsequent emergent cellular mesh, resulted in the definition of lightweight composite façade panels assembled on steel supporting structure. These panels are conceived to be digitally fabricated by using laser cutting machines. The result is a building that expresses its essence by a cladding pattern that encompasses the concept of emergence.

VORTEX

An experiment on  Grasshopper for Rhino to generate a parametric responsive form that is capable of changing its geometry and responding to the movement of external attractors, while the form parameters can fluctuate to change the height, shape, radius and twisting factor of the form. In addition an external lattice structure has been created as an attempt to visualize the underlying structural pattern of the geometry skin. By manipulating the parameters of the form and position of attractors, one can increase/decrease the geometry’level of complexity, and easily harmonize the emergent form. By responding to both change in its parameters (radius, Height, twisting factor, subdivision number, cladding extrusion size) and the movements of the external attractors, the model results in different visually striking forms, eventually looking like a vortex.

The Whirling Observatory

Whirling Observatory seeks to experiment on Genetic Algorithm concept which aims to find a balanced solutions to a geomertical problem using techniques inspired by natural evolution. The objective is to design a form which represents natural cycles, growth and transformation within a sustainable framework which can be achieved  by scooping and channelling the wind to generate energy through turbines to be accomodated within the tower, and collecting sun radiation through photovoltaic solar panels. FRP was adopted as the material of fabrication for the advantage of lightweight, quick assemble and easiness to mold double curvature surfaces.
The genetic Algorithm techniques aims to evolve the building form, where the fitness function endeavors to maximize solar effeciency , Dynamism of the tower , solar gain  and minimise floors area and the tower footprint.

Doodle

Inspired by Voronoi Diagram and subsequent emergent cellular mesh, Doodle explores the possibility of utilizing Dimension driven cell in producing a solution for exterior cladding and a screen façade design influenced by emergent grid-lines derived through the Voronoi Diagram.

The Empirical Tower

Empirical Tower seeks to experiment on Cellular Automata concept which based on cellular entities whose states depends on their previous state and on the one of their neighbors to perform complex outcomes by implementing simple set of rules that affect only local relations of their components. It investigates the way cellular automata can be used to generate an organisation of program within an Architectural form in order to illustrate that CA model can generate an unexpected organisation of space and form for a relatively simple rules, through a deterministic process.

The Empirical Tower  is a speculative project based on Mapping the programmatic distribution incorporating several functions to produce a system for the production complex mixed-use high-rise building as new solutions of habitation for the area of Greenwich. The New (90 M) high mixed-use tower , made of (27M) wide and (36M) long volume , the scheme proposes varied programmatic elements , from Commercial to Residential, public areas and office spaces , it tends to become a new landmark of the area.

The Floating Veil

Floating Veil is an experiment on visual basic for application scripting and its relevance in enhancing design probabilities and creating an evolutionary architectural form. The diffusion algorithm and vectors concepts has been utilized to generate a pavilion structure with fixed rectangular boundaries and dynamic surface that its curvature is dependent on designer inputs. different input values creates various alternatives and different geometry.

The generated form is to be created as a woven structural steel frame and can be encapsulated by curved glass. Translucent colored sun shades to be accommodated on the roof providing interior light modulation and interesting colored shadow of the roof pattern on the floor below. Photo voltaic panels are to be fixed to the roof structure, its size and rotation angle varies to maximize sun exposure.

The lightness of the woven structure and the floating roof above gives the impression of a flowing veil which soars overhead.
